LOCATION: Hotel Meteor is located near the pebble beach, in a tourist resort in Makarska, 1 hour drive from Split Airport.

Makarska

Makarska is settled in natural protected bay, closed from the southeast with cape Osejava, and from northwest with peninsula st. Peter. Town is spreading amphitheatral to the slopes od mountain Biokovo which is protecting it from continental climate and has rich mediterranean vegetation, mild winter, lond ang worm summers with refreshing maestral. Sun is shining more than 2750 h per year, with air temperature higher than 20°C from June to September, and transparent sea from June to October has temperature above 20°C.

Significantly from tourist attractions in Makarska are surely Malakološki museum, sanctuary Vepric, botanical garden Kotišina and Makarska observatory. Malakološki museum is open for public in 1963 in old part of Franciscan monastary which is protected culture monument. From over 3000 samples of exposed clams, in that museum you can see not only clams of Adriatic sea, but also species from tropical and subtropical seas, which have most appealing colours and shapes among all clams. Sanctuary Vepric is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. Natural cave and the whole landscape with hills, plants and creek among them vividly recalls of Lourdes. In that sanctuary was built chapel with sacristy, altar on the market, confessionals, stations of the cross, home for spiritual retreats, paths for processions. Because of its natural beauty and silence, that sanctuary is visited trough whole year, and main pilgrims days are 11. february, 25. march, 15. august and 7. and 8. september. Botanical garden Kotišina is settled on coastal slopes of mountain Biokovo above village Kotišina, on elevation from 350 to 500 m and is main part of Nature Park Biokovo. This garden is not classical botanical garden meaning every plant entries to certain rules, it is more like „walled part of nature“ where the natural shapes of vegetation will be held. Makarska observatory is unique by its position from more reasons: it is built on monument, it`s situated in towns center, 50m from riva and 100m from beach and is elevated on hillock Glavica, surrounded by a ring of pine forest which provides 100% dark!
